Why dog parks are bad!
At first dog park can seem like a great idea for socializing and dog training. A dog park seems like a place where a lot of different dogs can meet, play and exercise having great time off leash. In a perfect dog park each owner would pay attention to his and other dogs, no fights would break out, no children running unsupervised.
Sadly that is far from reality. Dog parks are rather dangerous for dogs and especially for puppies.

If you can find new information on a
better way to train why wouldn't you try it? It has been shown in
animal behavioral science and among most trainers that dogs and other
animals work better for reward than out of fear of the handler. If
there is a payoff, a behavior is more likely to be repeated. There
doesn't have to be punishment to stop a behavior. An absence of a
payoff will suffice to discourage or decrease the likelihood of
repeating that behavior. The problem is that most people
inadvertently reward their dogs for unwanted behavior
Here is an interesting article that I
think anyone, who uses negative punishment in dog training, should read. It debunks the
myths of how we should interact with our dogs like a wolf would
interact with a pack member. |

This article describes a process of training your dog not to take poison from strangers. Keep in mind, while it can take you few months to teach this, it can save your dogs life! There are alot of no good people lurking around and its much better to be safe then sorry!

Warning: Crate Training is a valuable tool
that can be used to housebreak your dog or puppy, but it should never
be over used. Sticking a dog or a puppy in a crate for most of the day
is not Crate Training, it is torture. If you think you’ll have to leave
your dog in a crate for the whole day, you should probably look into
alternatives.
