Dog Training Groundwork

In the world of dog training, simple things can make or break a dog. Dogs are just like humans they feel pain, they feel sadness, they know when they are being punished and praised.

In my opinion to have a great relationship between the human and the dog there have to be some ground level rules. These rules make up the groundwork for all my own techniques of dog training.

These are not listed in any order of importance, as they are all equally important to the bond of dog and the owner:

  • Never hit or cause any pain to a dog.

  • Always end a training session on a positive note.

  • Be consistent with the dog, this makes the dog respect you as a leader.

  • Never raise your voice at the dog, changing the tone of voice is enough.

  • Always keep the dog well fed and in good health.

  • Train and teach the dog manners, just like a child.

  • Give the dog plenty of attention and exercise.

These simple rules lay the foundation to a great relationship between the dog and his/her owner. If you can follow these rules, you will have a happier dog that is very eager to do anything with you, be it playing or doing obedience training.
