Dog Bow

Teaching a dog bow command is very easy.  It is really an extension of down command and nothing more.  Ideally it is very helpful to have two people teaching dog bow, but one person will have no problems teaching it as well.  You will need your dogs favorite treats or toy, and a leash if you are teaching it alone.

Here's the procedure on how I thought my dog to bow:

  1. Put the dog in Stand position.
  2. Take your dogs favorite treat.
  3. Either have a person hold the dog from behind under belly with his palms or run the leash under the belly to hold the dogs back end up.
  4. Let the dog smell his reward then start slowly lowering it to the floor, this will give the dog a reason to bow.
  5. If he doesn't bow you can give him a down command preceded by bow, so you say "bow down", the dog will try to go into down position, but because its back is held up it will perform a dog bow.

Continue doing this for sometime until your dog doesn't need help.  As always, do not bribe your dog by giving it a treat every time he performs a bow, make sure to make him guess and give the reward randomly!

Good luck!
